Pizza oven or oven?

For years we used to make pizza in a traditional kitchen oven.

We’d place a pizza stone on the rack, and we’d make a pretty decent pizza in it.

But then we got a pizza oven and OH MY GOODNESS, it’s AMAZING!

Nothing compares to the taste and the cook that you get in a pizza oven.

And did we mention how quick it is?

A pizza cooked in as little as 60 seconds?

Truly amazing.

Now we are spoiled and can NEVER cook pizza in a kitchen oven again!

Which is the best pizza oven?

We must admit, we haven’t tried all the pizza ovens on the market – who could?

But we have one favorite.

One that we could never let out of our lives again – it’s THAT good!

It’s the Ooni Karu 16 multi fuel and it’s totally AWESOME!

We’ll be writing a more in-depth review shortly but in a nutshell…

It’s stylish, and this little fella (we call ours Luigi after a chef in our favorite pizza restaurant in Sorrento) makes an attractive addition to your backyard, or porch, or he can even be carried down to the beach.

It’s quick, like in LIGHTNING quick!

You can cook a pizza in as little as 60 seconds.

Using both gas and natural fuel, you can choose if you go for convenience or a smoky stone baked taste.

In our humble opinion, it is just perfect, and we think that everyone should have a Luigi in their lives.

What do I serve with homemade pizza?

We love nothing better than tucking into a classic cheese pizza, but it’s good to serve it with different things.

Eat it on its own but dip it into your favorite dipping sauces.

Pizza aioli, Sriracha aioli, sour cream and chives sauce, or a garlic sauce are all begging for pizza to be dipped in them.

Serve it with sweet potato fries, peri peri fries, or even masala fries.

Or if you want to feel good, then a simple Italian green salad with a balsamic vinaigrette would be a great choice.

Homemade cheese pizza on a tray with a pizza cutter, pizza dip and cheese.

Do I need to make my own pizza dough?

No, you don’t.

Homemade pizza dough is great, it’s super fresh, it’s handcrafted, and made by you.

If you have time, then do it.

There’s nothing more satisfying than biting into a homemade pizza crust.

But we all lead busy lives - right?

And sometimes all you want to do is to grab a pizza base, load it up and throw it into your pizza oven.

We certainly do!

So, using store bought pizza dough or pizza crust, is absolutely fine.

Let’s talk pizza sauce

Now, we’re quite passionate about pizza sauce.

If you’re going to the trouble of making a homemade pizza, you want it to be amazing - right?

So don’t buy pizza sauce - make it!

We put marinara sauce on all our pizza crusts.

It’s like a layer of tasty happiness that creates a robust, Italian base for all the flavors that you layer on top of it.

And this basic pizza sauce takes just 15 minutes to make.

You’ll need to blitz it in a blender, but it’s worth it.

You can make it ahead AND it freezes too - what’s not to love?

Pizza in pizza oven.

What cheese do I use on a cheese pizza?

We’ve used three different kinds of cheese on our pizza.

Mozzarella cheese, vegetarian grated Parmesan cheese, and goat cheese.

They really compliment each other giving an amazing cheesy taste.

We use grated mozzarella as fresh mozzarella has a lot of moisture.

So, in our opinion, they are the best cheese to use, but of course, you can use other cheeses if you prefer.

And if you love goat cheese, then you should check out this goat cheese risotto from Whole Food Bellies!

How do I store leftover pizza?

Our homemade cheese pizza recipe will keep for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
