Isn’t it just sour cream and chives?

It sounds like it should be, doesn’t it!

But it’s not, we blend other flavors of mayonnaise, garlic, and lemon juice, to create a refreshing creamy dip.

When you taste how delicious this dip is and see how incredibly easy it is to make, you’ll never buy store-bought again!

Ingredients you’ll need to make this sour cream dip

You’ll need all the ingredients shown below in the photograph.

Ingredients needed, fresh chives, sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon, garlic, salt, and black pepper.

Is store-bought better?

Absolutely no!

When you buy something in a bottle, you don’t really know how long it’s been sitting on the shelf.

It may have a use-by date, but when was it made, and what’s in it to be able to keep it bottled for so long?

With our homemade sour cream and chive dip recipe, you get to use fresh ingredients, that you bought yourself.

The flavors that our recipe combine are glorious, they are so tasty that we think as soon as you taste it, you’ll see why we rave about this dip!

Once you know, you know…

Fresh is best

Always use fresh chives and always try to use fresh garlic, the flavor is SO much better.

As chives are a crucial ingredient, if you don’t have them, we’d suggest you leave making it until you do.

Maybe try ranch dressing, garlic dip, or blue cheese dressing instead?

Out of sour cream?

If you’ve been to your fridge and you find yourself out of sour cream, then don’t worry, we have a workaround for you.

Greek yogurt, Fromage frais, and crème Fraiche will both be a decent stand-in for sour cream.

Will it taste different?

Yes, but you’ll still be able to enjoy it.

What do I serve with this dip?

Sour cream and chive dip is perfect when dolloped generously on a freshly baked potato.

It cries out for carrot batons and celery sticks, and tortilla chips to be dipped in it.

Buffalo cauliflower and zucchini buffalo fries are delicious and dipped in sour cream and chive dip.

Dip your sweet potato fries and French fries, or how about sweet potato wedges?

It goes with so many things, making this great recipe a good choice.

How do I store it?

Our sour cream dip recipe will store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

You’ll be lucky if it lasts that long though.

Recipe notes and expert tips

  • No garlic?
    Use garlic powder instead.
  • Missing some sour cream?

  • Out of fresh chives?
You’d be best waiting until you get some, fresh chives are integral to this recipe.
