This easy dip needs the ingredients shown in the photograph below.
What is creamy garlic dip made of?
There are a few different recipes to make a garlic dip recipe, but we’ve opted for the super-fast, super-simple option.
In our recipe, we use garlic (naturally), butter, dried thyme, dried basil, mayonnaise, and just a tiny pinch of kosher salt.
All the ingredients are likely to be already in your store cupboard and you can rustle it up in no time at all!
Quick, tasty, and simple – what more could you want in a dip? Our garlic dipping sauce is a great fix when you want to go easy on yourself and choose an easy option.
What to serve garlic dipping sauce with
Our easy garlic dip has so much flavor it’s flexible and goes perfectly with all different types of food.
Homemade garlic sauce for
Try it with mushroom pizza, Margherita pizza, or cheese pizza.
It’s delicious when you smother it onto a seitan burger!
Nothing beats garlic dipping sauce for fries and they are insanely good – if you haven’t dipped pizza in garlic sauce before, then trust us, you HAVE to try it!
We dip our sweetcorn fritters, mashed potato fritters, and zucchini fritters in it.
Air fryer zucchini fries are divine dunked into garlic dip.
Dip tortillas or potato chips in it or go a little healthier, it’s delicious when you dip sliced veggies in it.
And we’ve even been known to dip our awesome air fryer cheesy carrots in it!
Garlic dip is great when you are having guests for a buffet, serve it alongside sour cream and chives, blue cheese dressing, chipotle aioli, or sriracha aioli.
Do I need to use fresh garlic?
Yes, you do.
The whole focus of this dip recipe is the garlic flavor, fresh garlic cloves are essential, you just don’t get the same flavor from garlic powder.
Jarred garlic is better than garlic powder, but the flavor still isn’t as good.
It’s fresh all the way with us!
How to choose a garlic bulb
Choosing the perfect garlic bulb is crucial for this dip.
First, take a look at the garlic bulb, if you can see green sprouts emerging from the top of the bulb, then don’t buy it, this means it’s old.
Second, give the bulb a squeeze, if it’s nice and firm, then it’s good to buy, but if it’s soft, it’s not at its best.
How to peel a garlic clove
There are many ways to peel garlic cloves, all with varying success.
I top and tail the clove and then use the flat of a kitchen knife, place it on top of the flat side of the garlic and then press firmly down on it, this loosens the skin and makes it easier to peel.
The easiest way to mince the garlic is to use a garlic press.
Make it vegan
If you are making this garlic sauce for a vegan, then you can easily adapt it.
Use vegan butter and vegan mayonnaise and you’ll be all set.
Recipe variations
Some recipes use cream cheese and sour cream instead of mayonnaise.
If you want to make it this way, then mix the sour cream and the cream cheese together, along with a little lemon juice, basil, thyme, ground black pepper, and fresh minced garlic.
If you’re using sour cream, then you may want to make it into roasted garlic dip, simply slice the head of a garlic bulb and roast in a hot oven.
Greek yogurt can also be used along with canola oil and some people even like to use a splash of Worcestershire sauce!
You may also garnish the dip with chopped parsley.
There’s also Lebanese garlic sauce which simply uses garlic, good olive oil, lemon juice, and kosher salt – so there are plenty of opportunities to experiment with garlic!
Remember, we’ve kept our garlic dip deliberately simple, for those times when you just want something tasty, and you want it quickly!
