Will I need any special equipment to make them?

The only piece of special equipment you’ll need to make our seitan burger recipe is a food processor.

Apart from a food processor, everything else you’ll need is standard kitchen equipment.

Are they gluten free?

No, seitan burgers are not gluten free as vital wheat gluten is a crucial ingredient to our vegan burger recipe.

Ingredients to make the best vegan seitan burgers, vital wheat gluten, black pepper, peanut butter, onion powder, brown lentils, garlic powder, raw beetroot, water, liquid smoke, ground ginger, smoked paprika and soy sauce.

What is vital wheat gluten?

In a nutshell, vital wheat gluten is made from wheat flour although it’s not actually flour.

The flour has been hydrated which activates the gluten and then it’s processed and everything except the gluten is then removed.

Once that’s done it’s dried and then they grind it so it’s in powder form and then you are left with vital wheat gluten.

How do I shape burger patties?

Seitan burger patties are easy to shape.

You can shape them so they are rustic, not standard shape and size patties or you can be more precise, the choice is yours.

If you want to be precise, then we recommend weighing the dough, and dividing it by 5 (or however many vegan burger patties you’re making) and then separating it.

Then use the palm of your hands to roll the dough into a small ball.

Take the ball and squash it onto your work surface and flatten it until you get a good vegan burger patty shape.
