Ingredients you’ll need to make it

You’ll need all the ingredients shown in the photograph below.

Ingredients needed, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, lemon, vegetarian blue cheese, sour cream, white wine vinegar, and parsley.

What’s the best blue cheese to use?

You’ll need to pick a blue cheese that is vegetarian.

The good news is that these days, many more blue kinds of cheese have vegetarian options.

You can even find Danish blue cheese that’s vegetarian now, Maytag blue cheese is vegetarian too, other blue cheeses are following suit, so things are definitely looking up!

If you’re looking for a blue cheese from Northern Italy, then take a look at Gorgonzola but it’s a little more difficult to find a true vegetarian option, so read the ingredients.

Pick a creamy blue cheese, but don’t forget you’ll need crumbled blue cheese for the recipe, so make sure you can crumble it easily.

You can even buy vegan blue cheese, but if you’re making this dressing for a vegan, be sure to buy vegan mayonnaise and vegan sour cream.

Is it a dip or dressing?

It can be both!

If you want a thinner dressing that can be deliciously poured over a salad, then you simply add a little milk or more buttermilk.

For a heavenly thick dip that’s just crying out to be spread on a burger or have carrots dipped in it, then you’ve come to the right place.

Both versions are in the recipe card below.

How do I store it?

This great recipe stores well and you can keep it in an airtight container for about a week.

Some people have told me that it’s lasted them up to two weeks, but it never lasts long in our house, there must be a phantom blue cheese eater!

And we also like to err on caution, so up to a week is our recommendation.

We don’t recommend freezing it, you could but it just doesn’t do well when defrosted.

Here’s the great thing about our blue cheese dressing recipe, you don’t need any fancy equipment!

Not a food processor or blender – nothing like that!
