It pushes air down and circulates it around your food, this mimics the process of deep-frying, without all of the oil.
Generally speaking, an air fryer will cook your food in a much healthier way.
What air fryer do we use?
We’re asked this a lot.
We’ve used the ninja brand before which is great, but we prefer the Instant pot Vortex air fryers.
They are super easy and our onion rings cooked amazing!

Do I need to defrost the onion rings?
No, you don’t.
Air fryers are great for cooking frozen foods and frozen onion rings are no exception, an air fryer makes it very easy.
Simply place your onion rings in the air fryer basket and get air frying!
What brand of frozen onion rings is best to use?
Use your favorite brand of onion rings, the ones you personally prefer.
If I’m not making homemade onion rings, then I will use McCain onion rings, but I’ve also heard good things about Alexia frozen onion rings too.
Experiment, try a few different brands, and go with what you prefer the most.
How long do frozen onion rings take in the air fryer?
It will depend on the type of air fryer that you have and how crispy you want them, air fryers vary.
Generally, it will take approximately 8 – 10 minutes.
Do I need to add oil?
No, you don’t.
The great thing about using an air fryer for making frozen onion rings is that no oil is necessary, you just place onion rings in the air fryer basket and start cooking.
Optional: If you want crispy onion rings crispier, then place the onion rings in a bowl and add a tablespoon of olive oil, toss the onion rings thoroughly or spray with olive oil.
But we think they turn out perfectly without adding extra oil.
What do you serve air fryer frozen onion rings with?
Onion rings are perfect served with burgers or as a snack with your favorite dipping sauce such as sriracha with mayo, garlic dip, sour cream and chive dip, ranch dip, or chipotle aioli.
Do I toss the frozen onion rings in oil?
You’ll find that most frozen onion rings already contain a small amount of oil, so you shouldn’t need to use extra oil.
However, if you want extra crispy onion rings then either toss them in a tablespoon of oil or spray them.
