Creamy, cheesy, spicy vodka sauce pasta that tastes SO good and is SO easy to make has my interest straight away! When we saw that the Gigi Hadid pasta went viral on Tiktok we knew we had to try it, with a couple of tweaks, we tested it out on friends who we’d invited to dinner – the verdict? It was delicious and their new favorite pasta dish!

Ingredients for Gigi Hadid pasta recipe

You’ll need the following ingredients to make this delicious pasta dish.

Ingredients needed, shell pasta, black pepper, red chilli flakes, salt, extra virgin olive oil, onion, garlic, heavy cream, butter, tomato paste, vegetarian Parmesan cheese, vodka, & fresh basil.

How to make Gigi Hadid pasta with vodka with step-by-step instructions

It’s easy to make our version of Gigi Hadid’s spicy vodka pasta sauce recipe if you follow our simple instructions.

Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil, then add your pasta and cook the pasta according to the package instructions, when cooked, reserve half a cup of pasta water before draining as you’ll need it later.

While the pasta is cooking start on the spicy vodka pasta sauce.

Add extra virgin olive oil, saute onions, add minced garlic.
Add olive oil to a skillet and sauté onions, then add minced garlic.
Stir in tomato paste.
Add tomato paste and cook, then add vodka.
Add heavy cream, red chili flake, salt, and black pepper, stir to combine.
Add heavy cream, red chili flakes, salt, and pepper.

Heat your olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, when the olive oil is shimmering, add white onion and saute until they have softened and are translucent, be careful not to burn them.

Next, add minced garlic and saute for a minute.

Then, add tomato paste, stir to combine, and cook for 5 minutes, keep stirring frequently to avoid burning.

Now, if you’re using vodka, add vodka, stir, and cook for a further 2 minutes.

Next, add your heavy cream, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, stir to combine.

When your pasta sauce is smooth, add in your parmesan cheese, stir to combine, and then add some of the reserved cup of pasta water, a little at a time until you get your preferred consistency.

Add Parmesan cheese and reserved pasta water, stir until smooth.
Add cheese, butter, and reserved pasta water.
Add shell pasta, stir to thoroughly coat and garnish with basil.
Add your pasta, stir to coat evenly, and garnish with fresh parsley.

Now, add your cooked pasta to the spicy vodka sauce along with the butter, and stir thoroughly to ensure the pasta is coated with the sauce and the butter has melted.

Serve immediately and garnish with either chopped parsley or chopped basil leaves and a sprinkling of vegetarian parmesan cheese.

Notes and expert tips

  • Reduce the spice
    Just use fewer chili flakes, add a little at a time, and taste before adding more.
  • Try different onions
    You can use shallots or red onions.
  • Out of tomato paste?
    If you don’t have any tomato paste, try using a can of chopped tomatoes instead.
  • Tone it down
    If you don’t like your pasta spicy, then simply reduce the number of red chili flakes to your preferred amount.
  • Reheating
    When reheating, add a little milk, more heavy cream, or pasta water to loosen the sauce and prevent burning.

Gigi Hadid pasta without vodka

You don’t have to use vodka in this pasta dish. If you’re not using vodka, then just add a little more of the reserved pasta water to loosen the sauce up a little.

Many people make this delicious pasta dish without vodka, and it makes it family-friendly.

Vodka adds a slightly acidic taste to the dish, you can substitute with lime juice mixed with grape juice or apple juice,

This is now one of our favorite pasta dishes, all the cheesy, creaminess of pasta with a splash of chili flakes make it a winning dish!

What pasta does Gigi Hadid use?

In Gigi Hadid’s recipe, she used pasta shells.

We’ve used conchiglie pasta, which is a kind of shell pasta.

Use your favorite pasta, penne pasta, rigatoni, whole wheat pasta, or any kind of pasta that would work well with this tasty dish.

Is Gigi Hadid pasta the same as penne alla vodka pasta?

Yes, pretty much it is.

The main difference between Gigi Hadid and penne alla vodka is that Gigi uses pasta shells instead of penne – that’s it!

How do I store it?

In the unlikely event that you have leftover spicy vodka pasta (we never do), it will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container.

Who is Gigi Hadid?

Gigi Hadid is an American model, she started modeling at the tender age of 2 and her debut at New York Fashion Week was in 2014.

It was on Instagram that Gigi Hadid’s famous pasta was first posted.

What do I serve this with?

Gigi Hadid pasta is perfect when served with an Italian green salad or garlic bread.

Some people eat it with grilled chicken but of course, as vegetarians, we use vegetarian chicken.

Ingredients

  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 8 oz (225 grams) Shell pasta
  • ½ cup (110 grams) Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small Onion diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • ½ cup (130 grams) Tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp Vodka
  • 1½ cups (350 grams) Heavy cream (double cream)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • 2 tsp Red chili flakes
  • ½ cup (50 grams) Vegetarian Parmesan cheese finely grated
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • Basil leaves (optional) chopped

Instructions

  • Bring a large pan of salted water to a boil, then add your pasta and cook it according to the package instructions, when cooked, drain but reserve some of the pasta water as you’ll need it later
    1 pinch Salt, 8 oz (225 grams) Shell pasta
  • While the pasta is cooking start on the spicy vodka pasta sauce. Heat your olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, when the olive oil is shimmering, add onions and saute until they have softened and are translucent, be careful not to burn them. Next, add minced garlic and saute for a minute. Then, add tomato paste, stir to combine, and cook for 5 minutes, keep stirring frequently to avoid burning
    ½ cup (110 grams) Extra virgin olive oil, 1 small Onion, 4 cloves Garlic, ½ cup (130 grams) Tomato paste
  • Now, if you’re using vodka, add vodka, stir, and cook for a further 2 minutes. Next, add your heavy cream, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, stir to combine. When your pasta sauce is smooth, add in your parmesan cheese, stir to combine, and then add some of the reserved pasta water, a little at a time until you get your preferred consistency
    3 tbsp Vodka, 1½ cups (350 grams) Heavy cream (double cream), Salt to taste, ½ tsp Black pepper, 2 tsp Red chili flakes, ½ cup (50 grams) Vegetarian Parmesan cheese
  • Now, add your cooked pasta to the spicy vodka sauce along with the butter, and stir thoroughly to ensure the pasta is coated with the sauce and the butter has melted. Serve immediately and garnish with either chopped parsley or chopped basil leaves and a sprinkling of vegetarian parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

    This is the best pasta dish I have ever Eaten! We followed the recipe v carefully, using shallots & three quarters full-fat french crème fraîche & & a quarter half-fat crème fraîche for the heavy cream. Waoh! sooo worth the calories!!
