Recipe notes and expert tips

  • Oil
We’ve used coconut oil as we love the flavor it gives the fritters, but you could use vegetable oil or avocado oil.
  • Storage
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and freeze for up to 3 months.

What to serve sweet potato fritters with

Sweet potato fritters are delicious as a snack and dipped in your favorite dipping sauce.

It doesn’t need to be a difficult sauce, sriracha sauce is a perfectly spicy sauce to counteract the natural sweetness of the sweet potato.

We love to dip them in sour cream and chives, and homemade ranch sauce. and even a nice hot sauce like sriracha sauce aioli or arrabiata sauce.

They make a great side with a veggie burger or vegan burger.

Can you grate sweet potatoes in a food processor?

Yes, you can, just use the grater attachment or grater disc that your food processor comes with.

If you don’t have a food processor, then just use a box grater instead.

Why are my sweet potato fritters soggy?

When fritters are soggy, it’s most likely that the oil you used for cooking wasn’t hot enough.

You need to ensure that the oil is very hot, use a little grated sweet potato mixture to test the oil, if it sizzles as you place it in, then it’s ready, if it doesn’t then keep heating the oil.

Go gluten free

Substitute all purpose flour with almond flour for gluten free sweet potato fritters.

Can I make them ahead of time?

Yes, you can make the potato mixture, cover it with plastic wrap and leave it in the fridge the day before you cook them.

Lots of fritters and a bowl of dipping sauce.

How to store leftover sweet potato fritters

Sweet potato fritters store well, and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

You can also freeze them.

When cooked, let them cool completely and then freeze for up to 3 months.
