How to make air fryer sweet potato cubes with step-by-step instructions
A complete printable recipe and the measurements in both US customary and metric are available in the recipe card below.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F/205°C.
Peel and cut your sweet potatoes into half-inch cubes.
Add the sweet potato chunks to a large bowl, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil (or your favorite cooking oil), then sprinkle kosher salt, cumin, garlic powder (substitute with onion powder if you prefer), smoked paprika, and black pepper.
Using your hands, toss the cubes in the oil and spice mixture, ensuring that they are well coated, then spread them in a single layer in your air fryer basket, don’t overcrowd them, or they’ll become soggy.
Air fry the sweet potato cubes until they are crispy on the outside but perfectly tender on the inside, shaking the basket halfway through for approximately 10 – 12 minutes.
Remove from the air fryer, and sprinkle with fresh parsley.
Serve your roasted sweet potatoes immediately as a side dish or a snack with the dipping sauce.
Recipe notes and expert tips
- Preheat
We pre-heat our air fryer, but if you have an oven-style basket-type air fryer, then you probably won’t need to. - Overcrowding
Be careful not to overcrowd the sweet potato cubes in the air fryer basket, they won’t crisp up, and they’ll become soggy. - Watch closely
Every air fryer cooks differently; different brands and capacities can mean that your food will need a longer or shorter cooking time, so keep a close eye on them.
How to store leftover sweet potato cubes
Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days and in the freezer for up to 3 months.
What to serve with air fryer sweet potato cubes
You can serve easy air fryer sweet potato cubes as a side dish along with mains, mushroom wellington, spinach, and ricotta lasagna, or even an air fryer vegan ham.
Or you can serve them as a snack along with your favorite dipping sauce; sweet chili sauce, BBQ sauce, maple syrup ketchup, or delicious garlic aioli.
Recipe variations
Mix up the seasonings; we’ve opted for savory sweet potatoes with a savory spice blend, but if you’re in the mood for a sweet version, try them with brown sugar and maple syrup.
Spice them up by adding cayenne pepper, red chili flakes, or chili powder.
Do I need to soak sweet potatoes?
No, you don’t need to soak sweet potatoes; they have as much starch as white potatoes, so they crisp up nicely in the air fryer.
Can I use frozen sweet potato chunks?
Yep, you certainly can!
You can cook from frozen, they crisp up really well, and most frozen sweet potatoes are peeled and cubed – so it makes it even easier!
