How does this differ from a classic Bloody Mary?

In a classic Bloody Mary cocktail, the ingredients include vodka, tomato juice, fresh lemon juice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, celery salt, celery stick, and a lemon wedge.

In a Bloody Maria, we swap out the vodka for tequila and replace the celery stick with chilis, giving it a real Mexican flavor.

Why do people drink Bloody Marys or Bloody Marias in the morning?

You’ll often find that a Bloody Mary or a Bloody Maria is a cocktail that people will drink in the morning.

It normally follows a heavy night of drinking alcohol when someone is feeling a little delicate.

They’ll drink a Bloody Maria because it contains a shot of alcohol, in this case, tequila, and the tomato juice will rehydrate and give you a vitamin c kick.

You’ll find that you can pick up Bloody Mary mix in the stores rather than Bloody Maria, but you don’t need store-bought.

In fact, don’t buy store-bought as we’re going to show you how you can make it much better!

Do I have to use fresh lemon juice?

Yes, definitely use fresh lemon juice.

Buying lemon juice in a bottle won’t taste anywhere near as good as freshly squeezed lemon juice and it only takes a minute to squeeze a lemon.

What cocktail glass should I use?

A Bloody Maria is a long drink, so we recommend using a highball glass.

  • Like your Bloody Maria REALLY spicy?
    Just add more hot sauce and keep tasting and adding until you get the heat that you like. You could also add in a little chili powder!
  • Out of lemon juice?
    You can substitute lemon for lime juice, it will change the taste, but lime juice will still work well.
  • Add a little height
    Add celery stalks for tall garnish!

It’s easy to make our bloody maria cocktail recipe if you follow our simple step-by-step instructions.

In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, tomato juice, and horseradish.

  • In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, tomato juice and lemon juice
    2 oz Tequila, 3½ oz Tomato juice, ½ oz Lemon juice
  • Then add jalapeno syrup, horseradish, and vegan Worcestershire sauce
    ¼ oz Jalapeno syrup, ½ tbsp Horseradish, 4 Dashes Vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • Add tabasco sauce, celery salt, black pepper, and then garnish
    2 Dashes Tabasco sauce, Pinch of celery salt, Pinch of pepper
  • Add a handful of ice cubes and then secure the lid and shake all the ingredients vigorously for approximately 20 seconds. Using a Hawthorne strainer, pour your bloody maria into an ice-filled glass and garnish with chilies and a lime wedge
