Recipe notes and expert tips

  • Don’t overcrowd
Resist the temptation to put too many mushrooms in at once; the air needs to be able to circulate around the mushrooms.
  • Keep a watch
Different air fryers cook at different times, so keep a watch on your mushrooms; they may need more or less time. Larger mushrooms will also need a longer cooking time.
  • Storage
Keep your mushrooms in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

How to store air fryer mushrooms

You’ll want to ensure that the mushrooms have cooled to room temperature; if they are still hot, you’ll get condensation which will make them soggy.

Place a layer of ever so slightly damp paper towel in the bottom of an airtight container and store them in a single layer for up to 4 days.

You can freeze them for up to a month, but they don’t keep their texture and we don’t recommend this.

Lots of cooked mushrooms.

What to serve with air-fried mushrooms

We love how easy air fryer mushrooms are to cook and how they’ll lend themselves to so many dishes and occasions.

Air-fried mushrooms are so versatile you can dip them and have them as a snack or appetizer, or they can be a delicious side to your main course.

Try dipping them in BBQ sauce or garlic aioli. For a spicy kick, then, try dipping them in peri peri sauce, or for a sweet, spicy kick, try Thai sweet chili sauce.

If you’re serving them as an appetizer, they go great served alongside air fried jalapeno peppers and air fried sweet potato cubes.

You could even add them to air fried potato skins, or they would even work in an air fried cheese quesadilla – the skys the limit!

They make a great side for an air fried baked potato, spinach and ricotta lasagna, and they are a delicious accompaniment to air fried stuffed peppers.

Our favorite air fryer is the Instant pot Vortex and we like this for its intuitive display, the filter stops lasting food smells, and you can see your food cooking through the glass panel and light function.

We love it because it cooks perfectly, is very quiet, and has a window so you can check on the food without having to open the air fryer.
