Recipe notes and expert tips
- Don’t overcrowd
Resist the temptation to put too many mushrooms in at once; the air needs to be able to circulate around the mushrooms. - Keep a watch
Different air fryers cook at different times, so keep a watch on your mushrooms; they may need more or less time. Larger mushrooms will also need a longer cooking time. - Storage
Keep your mushrooms in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
How to store air fryer mushrooms
You’ll want to ensure that the mushrooms have cooled to room temperature; if they are still hot, you’ll get condensation which will make them soggy.
Place a layer of ever so slightly damp paper towel in the bottom of an airtight container and store them in a single layer for up to 4 days.
You can freeze them for up to a month, but they don’t keep their texture and we don’t recommend this.
What to serve with air-fried mushrooms
We love how easy air fryer mushrooms are to cook and how they’ll lend themselves to so many dishes and occasions.
Air-fried mushrooms are so versatile you can dip them and have them as a snack or appetizer, or they can be a delicious side to your main course.
Try dipping them in BBQ sauce or garlic aioli. For a spicy kick, then, try dipping them in peri peri sauce, or for a sweet, spicy kick, try Thai sweet chili sauce.
If you’re serving them as an appetizer, they go great served alongside air fried jalapeno peppers and air fried sweet potato cubes.
You could even add them to air fried potato skins, or they would even work in an air fried cheese quesadilla – the skys the limit!
They make a great side for an air fried baked potato, spinach and ricotta lasagna, and they are a delicious accompaniment to air fried stuffed peppers.

What are the best mushrooms to cook in an air fryer?
You can use many different types of mushrooms, but the best way to cook them is to use fresh mushrooms.
We use baby Bellas (baby chestnut mushrooms).
But you could use regular button cremini mushrooms or white button mushrooms also.
Naturally, you can air fry most mushrooms, but the flavors and timings change.
Portobello mushrooms are lovely but need slightly longer in the air fryer.
Once you air fry mushrooms, you’ll never go back to the traditional way of cooking.
What is the best air fryer to use?
There are so many different makes and models of air fryers around these days, and we can’t claim to have tried them all.
This is the air fryer that we use and love.
Instant Pot Vortex 4-in-1 Air Fryer 5.7L
Our favorite air fryer is the Instant pot Vortex and we like this for its intuitive display, the filter stops lasting food smells, and you can see your food cooking through the glass panel and light function.
We love it because it cooks perfectly, is very quiet, and has a window so you can check on the food without having to open the air fryer.
Play with the flavors
We love our easy air fryer mushrooms recipe, but with all of our recipes, we encourage you to experiment!
Once you’ve cooked the recipe, see what you would add to make it perfect for YOU.
You may want to add a little soy sauce or garlic for garlic mushrooms.
Add a breadcrumb coating for crispy breaded mushrooms.
