There’s something so irresistible about this refreshing cocktail that makes it great by the poolside, at a party, or sitting and watching the sun go down.

This perfect cocktail recipe is great for making shots, simply follow our recipe instructions but instead of using an old-fashioned or tumbler glass, use shot glasses instead!

You can make it the day ahead and store it in the fridge to keep it chilled.

Just remember to remove the ice cubes or your cocktail will be diluted.

How to make a salty chihuahua cocktail with step-by-step instructions

Making a salty chihuahua is easy if you follow our simple instructions.

Take your old-fashioned glass and wipe a lime wedge around the rim, then swirl it gently round in coarse salt so the salt sticks to the rim and set aside.

Process shots, photo one; make your salty rim, photo two; add ice to a cocktail shaker, then add grapefruit juice and tequila; photo three, add triple sec, shake and pour.

Add ice cubes to a cocktail shaker, then add fresh grapefruit juice, silver tequila, and triple sec or Cointreau.

Secure the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for approximately 20 seconds, then strain and fill the glass, garnish with a lime wedge, serve, and enjoy – cheers!

Cocktail shaker set
1 Cocktail shaker not essential – see notes
Cocktail jigger
1 Jigger not essential – see notes
1 Cocktail strainer not essential – see notes

  • 1 Lime wedge
  • 1 tbsp Coarse salt
  • Ice cubes
  • 5 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
  • 2 oz Silver tequila
  • 1 oz Triple sec
  • 1 Lime wedge to garnish
