Delicious baked apples with an amazing crumble topping, this is a dessert that is SO easy to make, that it’s going to be one of your favorite apple recipes!

What’s the difference between apple crumble and apple crisp?

Both apple crumble and apple crisp are baked apple desserts.

The apple crumble topping is made with flour, sugar, and butter.

Whereas the apple crisp topping is made with oats or nuts and is less dense than the apple crumble topping.

What do I serve it with?

Our mini apple crumbles are perfect when served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

If serving ice cream, then just be aware that the ice cream can soften the topping.

What apples are the best to use?

We’ve used Granny Smith apples, but you can use your favorite type.

Braeburn or pink lady apples are both good apples.

A spoonful of apple crumble above a ramekin.

How do I store them?

Each mini apple crumble will store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.

They do freeze well, but we strongly recommend freezing the crumble topping and the apple mixture separately..

This is because if frozen together when you defrost them, the crumble topping may become soggy and lose the crunchiness.

Recipe notes and expert tips

  • Cold butter
Don’t use melted butter for this recipe, you need cold butter in small cubes to create the fine crumb topping.
  • Add more flavor
Try adding ground cinnamon and lemon juice to your apple slices when simmering.
  • Ramekins
We prefer to use ramekins, if you use a muffin tin, when you remove the individual apple crumbles, the apple filling will collapse!
  • Storage
Your mini apple crumble will keep covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze the apple filling and topping separately.
