How to make white pizza with step by step instructions
Making our white pizza recipe is easy if you follow our simple instructions.
If using a pizza oven
Preheat your pizza oven to 650°F/340°C.
In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese, half of the crushed red pepper flakes, half of the fresh oregano, half of the fresh thyme, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
Lightly flour your pizza peel and place your pizza crust on it.
Now, brush the pizza crust with olive oil leaving a ½ inch border.
Then, spread the ricotta mixture over the olive oil, add half of the vegetarian Parmesan cheese, and add fresh mozzarella cheese.
Next, place your pizza in the pizza oven and cook until the crust has charred and the toppings are perfectly cooked, approximately 2 – 3 minutes, turning with a pizza turning peel every 20 seconds, to ensure an even cook.
Remove your pizza from the oven, sprinkle with the remaining vegetarian Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, oregano, and thyme.
Serve immediately and enjoy your white pizza!
If you are using a kitchen oven
Preheat your oven to 500°F/260°C.
If you are using a pizza stone put it in the oven so that it heats up.
Place your pizza crust on a lightly flour surface or on your pizza pan.
In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese, half of the red pepper flakes, half of the fresh oregano, half of the fresh thyme, kosher salt, and pepper.
Lightly flour your pizza peel and place your pizza crust on it.
Now, brush the pizza crust with extra virgin olive oil leaving a ½ inch border.
Then, spread the ricotta mixture over the olive oil, add half of the vegetarian Parmesan cheese, and add fresh mozzarella cheese.
Next, place your pizza in the oven and cook until the crust is golden brown, and the toppings are perfectly cooked, approximately 8 – 10 minutes, turning your pizza halfway to ensure that it cooks evenly.

Recipe notes and expert tips
- No fresh mozzarella?
You can substitute it for shredded mozzarella, it will change the flavor slightly, but it’ll be super tasty.
- Storage
Stores for up to 3 days in an airtight container in the fridge or will freeze for up to 3 months.
- Beware
Different pizza ovens, pizza stones, or pans all cook in different ways. Watch your pizza as you may have to increase or reduce the cooking time.
What to serve with white pizza
Quite often, the only thing we serve with pizza is our favorite dipping sauce, we love dipping it sour cream chives dip, pizza aioli, or a garlic dip.
Of course, pizza night is never complete without garlic bread!
It’s great with sides like sweet potato fries, onion rings, or a green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
What is white pizza called in Italian?
In Italy, white pizza is called pizza bianca.
This type of pizza is made with a cheese and olive oil base, and sometimes includes other ingredients like garlic or rosemary.
A white pizza isn’t made with marinara sauce or tomato pizza sauce.
Pizza bianca is a popular choice for lunch or a light dinner.
What’s the best way to cook pizza?
In our opinion, there are three ways to cook a pizza.
- In a pizza oven
- On a pizza stone
- On a pizza pan
A pizza oven is our favorite method. If you love the Italian charred crusts and a pizza cooked in less than 4 minutes, then a pizza oven for you.
Forget the restaurants, you can make it as good at home.
Then we have the pizza stone, which is a great cost efficient option.
A pizza stone will fit in your kitchen oven, the stone heats up to a high temperature which in turn will ensure that your pizza crust cooks in an even manner and you’ll get a well cooked base.
Lastly, a pizza pan. This is by far the most affordable option, but if you are going to buy one, buy a pizza pan with holes in it.
The holes will allow some of the heat of your oven to reach the crust and will give a better cook than a baking sheet.
We don’t advise that you cook your pizza on a baking sheet.
Do I need to make my own pizza dough?
Homemade pizza dough is always the best, but not everyone has the time or the inclination to make it.
Don’t give yourself a hard time, buy pizza dough or a pizza crust from the store, but just make sure you buy a good brand that you love.
Try our ooni pizza dough recipe!!
Add extra flavor
We’ve given you a delicious pizza bianca recipe, but you can add more flavor if you’d like.
Add minced garlic to olive oil, add in the pepper flakes and then brush the olive oil mixture onto the crust, or you could just use garlic oil.
After cooking, toss arugula in a little fresh lemon juice and garnish your pizza for a little fresh zesty freshness.
How do I store leftover pizza?
Pizza will keep for up to 3 days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge, it’ll also freeze for up to 3 months.
When ready to eat, you can choose to reheat it or eat it cold (we love it cold!).
