1. Xacuti

We love curry and xacuti is an Indian curry that originates from Goa.

Normally xacuti is made with chicken or beef and made with coconut, chilies, and white poppy seeds.

When we were in India, we were lucky enough to enjoy a wonderful vegetarian version of this popular dish.

It’s best enjoyed with a bowl of rice and naan bread to dip into it.

2. Xalapa Punch

Xalapa punch is a drink that is made with rum, brandy, and red wine.

You actually heat the red wine, along with heated orange rinds.

It seems quite simple, but trust us, it’s got a real punch to it!

3. Xampinyons En Salsa Mushrooms

Xampinyons en salsa mushrooms is a classic Spanish tapas dish found in Latin America and is made with stir-fried onions, garlic, and wild mushrooms.

As you can imagine, mushrooms are the main focus of this recipe.

4. Xanthan Gum

You may have heard of xanthan gum, it’s made from corn sugar that’s been fermented and is a popular food additive used to thicken foods.

5. Xanthia

A xanthia is a cherry brandy, gin, and ice cocktail.

You mix it with ice and then strain it into your cocktail glass.

6. Xavier Soup

If you’re Italian, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Xavier soup, an Italian dumpling soup, named after Saint Francis Xavier, a Spanish missionary.

So Xavier soup is from saintly origins!

Xavier Italian soup is a thick soup made with cream, and chicken stock, although we would use a vegetarian stock.

7. Xavier Steak

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Xavier steak refers to a specific cut of a steak, but it doesn’t.

Xavier steak is made up of three ingredients, steak, asparagus, and swiss cheese, naturally, we’d use a plant-based steak and vegetarian swiss cheese.

8. Xi Gua Lao

This is an interesting one, Xi gua lao is a watermelon jelly and is traditionally eaten in Beijing in summer.

They mix water with vanilla powder, sugar, and agar, then boil it with syrup.

Then the watermelon is squashed to get all the juice out of it, they then mix it into the syrup mixture and chill it.

You’d eat this dish cold.

9. Xia Mi

The literal meaning in Chinese is ‘rice shrimp‘ although there’s only dehydrated shrimp in this dish and no rice.

We don’t eat fish so it’s not on our list of foods that start with x to try!

10. Xiangcaojing

Xiangcaojing is the Chinese word for vanilla extract and a favorite of mine to use in baking.

11. Xiaolongbao

When we visited China we saw a lot of xiaolongbao, which is a Chinese steamed bun.

Traditionally these are steamed Chinese dumplings filled with meat and broth, although you could make a vegetarian version.

12. Xidoufen

A delicious flavorful dish full of vegetables and flavor, with garlic, ginger, peas, dry chili flakes, and cilantro, xidoufen is a popular Chinese soup in Yunnan.

13. Xigua

Did you know that Xigua is the Chinese word for watermelon?

Neither did we until we research all of these wonderful foods that start with x!

14. Xingren Doufu

We saw xingren doufu when we visited Beijing, it’s a popular Asian dessert made from almond milk, but we couldn’t try it as it’s a gelatin dessert.

15. Xinomavro Grapes

A very popular grape, xinomavro grapes are the grapes used by the ancient Greeks to make wine and they are still being used today.

This is one of our favorite foods that start with x!

16. Xiphias

Xiphias, or Xiphias gladius to be precise, is a swordfish.

A swordfish is an aggressive predatory fish, mainly found in the Pacific, Indian Oceans, and the Atlantic.

They’re called swordfish because they have flat, long, and pointed bills.

This is a fun fact, when swordfish reaches adulthood, they lose all of their teeth and scales!

17. Xmas cookies

Is it cheating to say that Xmas cookies are on our list of foods that start with X?

Probably but we just couldn’t leave them out!

18. Xnipec

From Yucatan, this is a fresh salsa, it’s made with habanero chilies and oranges and we are putting this fresh salsa on our list of foods that start with x that we must try!

19. XO sauce

Xo sauce is a very spicy sauce that we saw a lot of in Hong Kong but didn’t try it as it’s not suitable for vegetarians.

These foods all start with the letter X!

20. Xocolatl

Chocolate lovers will enjoy xocolatl as it’s a Mexican hot chocolate, a spicy milky sweet hot cocoa, but you’ll find it served in America too.

21. Xoconostle

Xanthia is native to Central Mexico and is a species of the prickly pear cactus, it’s used in a cocktail called xanthia.

22. Xoi

We ate this a lot when we visited Vietnam, xoi is sticky rice and commonly eaten for breakfast!

23. Xouba

We think that xouba, which are sardine-like fish, are better at swimming in the ocean, but they are used in different types of European dishes.

24. Xylitol

Extracted from plants, xylitol is a sugar substitute, it can be mistaken for sugar but the body finds it quite difficult to absorb.

It’s actually categorized as sugar alcohol.

25. Xylocarp

A xylocarp is a fruit that has a woody, hard exterior.
