What equipment do you need to make a mojito?

The great thing about this mojito recipe is that you don’t actually need a lot of equipment to make it.

All you’ll need is a cocktail muddling spoon and if you don’t have a muddler, then you can even carefully use the back of a tablespoon.

No food processor, no blender, and not even a cocktail shaker is needed to make this delicious mojito.

Where does a mojito come from?

A mojito comes from Cuba.

The word has it that Mojito’s were invented to help prevent illness, possibly invented by South Americans who went to Cuba and sourced ingredients for an effective remedy.

We’re not sure if this is in fact true but these drinks always make us feel a lot better!

Is a mojito vegan?

This blackberry mojito recipe is definitely vegan.

You may just want to double-check everything that goes into the blackberry mojito such as the white rum that you are using though, as not every manufacturer includes the same ingredients.

Club soda water, blackberries, mint, and lime juice are all, obviously, vegan, so everyone can enjoy these cocktails.

What alcohol goes in a mojito?

Fresh mint plant with lemons and limes

In this mojito recipe, the only alcohol we use is rum, white rum.

Our white rum of choice is Bacardi but you can use whatever brand of rum you prefer.

Do I need simple syrup?

Some people do use simple syrup or, as it’s also known, sugar syrup but we haven’t in this particular mojito recipe, we’ve kept it as quick and as easy as we possibly can.

Syrup or no syrup, this blackberry mojito tastes amazing.

Do I have to use fresh lime juice?

We think fresh juice makes all of the difference.

Of course, if you just can’t get hold of any fresh limes at the grocery store, then get the best quality bottled juice that you can find as it really does affect the taste of the cocktail.

Do I leave in the blackberry seeds?

Yes, you do, the blackberry seeds are very much part of the drink and you won’t even notice them when you’re drinking it.

How long does this cocktail take to make?

This is such an easy-to-make cocktail and so the prep time is just 5 minutes.

Yes, 5 minutes prep time, that’s all and then you’re drinking it!

Can I use frozen mint leaves?

No, you really do need to use fresh mint leaves for this mojito.

Frozen mint leaves just won’t give the depth of flavor, so don’t skip these!

What can I use instead of club soda?

If you’ve run out of club soda, then you can use seltzer instead.

If you don’t mind a little additional flavor in your mojito then you could also use sprite or tonic water but we recommend using club soda whenever you can.

Can you make these cocktails ahead?

Yes, you can. You could most certainly muddle the blackberry, lime juice, sugar, and mint leaves but we wouldn’t advise adding the club soda too far in advance or you’ll lose the fizz in your cocktail.

We’d definitely recommend making a pitcher of these fantastic mojitos, you can easily multiply the ingredients in our recipe card that you’ll see below.

What’s the perfect blackberry mojito recipe?

We’ve given step by step directions in the recipe sheet at the bottom of this post, along with all the quantities for the ingredients.

This is what we think is the perfect blackberry mojito recipe, one worthy of appearing on your menu.

First make sure you have all the ingredients to hand.

You’ll need sugar (you could use sugar syrup if you prefer), fresh lemon juice and lime juice, club soda, rum (or you could use vodka if you prefer), blackberries, mint leaves, granulated sugar and ice cubes.

If you haven’t got all of these, then now is the time to run to the store!

Fresh citrus fruit for mojitos

You’ll need to start by making your blackberry mixture, so put your blackberries, mint leaves, lime and lemon juice and granulated sugar in a tall cocktail glass.

You’ll now need to muddle the mixture, you can use a muddler but if you haven’t got one of those, then just use the back of a tablespoon.

Tip: if you muddle in a cocktail glass, be careful not to press too hard as you don’t want the glass to break! You may want to muddle in a jug and transfer the mixture to a glass.

Then you’ll need to add your club soda water. You’ll already notice the wonderful color that the mixture has turned the club soda water.

Next, it’s time for your rum, so add the rum to the drink.

Now it’s time for the ice cubes so fill up your glass with ice.

Stir your drinks well, so the whole glass is full of wonderful color.

That’s it! All you need to do now is to enjoy your drinks and it’s flavors – cheers!

We think you’ll agree that this mojito recipe really does have a wonderful flavor!

You’ll never look at blackberries the same again!

Get ready to make some more!

What glasses should I serve this cocktail in?

If you’re going to serve this drink to your friends and you want to go with the traditional glasses, then serve them in a Cuban highball glass.

You may not have those types of glasses so use a tall glass like a highball.

When would you drink this cocktail?

This is such a refreshing cocktail that it’s great for summer parties (you can usually find blackberries in the store all year round).

BBQ’s or celebrations but let’s face it, you don’t really need an occasion to drink this do you?
