Recipe notes and expert tips

  • Cut costs
Instead of using the more expensive mushrooms, just use cremini mushrooms.
  • Spice it up
Add a sprinkling of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Flour
Be sure to use flour on your pizza stone or tray to prevent it from sticking.
  • Keep an eye on your pizza
Different ovens, different methods, and different crusts cook at varying times; keep a close eye on your pizza to ensure you don’t over or undercook it.

What do I serve with pizza?

Pizza is a great appetizer or main course.

It’s perfect when dipped in pizza aioli, garlic dip, sour cream and chives, or even blue cheese dressing!

Serve up a slice of pizza with some homemade garlic bread, a green Italian salad with balsamic vinaigrette, or some sweet potato wedges.

Wash your pizza down with the perfect Italian cocktail, a lemon drop martini, or a Long Island iced tea.

How do I cook pizza perfectly?

There are three ways to cook pizza.

You can use a pizza oven.

We use an Ooni pizza oven which we love.

It’s very well made and cooks pizza in as little as 60 seconds.

With options to use gas or charcoal, it’s so easy, and best of all is that you get that wonderful charred pizza!

The second way is to use a pizza stone.

A pizza stone is a great cost effective option.

You place the stone in your kitchen oven, it heats up and it enables you to cook your crust more evenly than if you used a baking sheet.

If a pizza oven is not an option for you, then we wholeheartedly recommend a pizza stone as this alone will elevate your pizzas!

The third way is to use a pizza pan.

A pizza tray has holes in the bottom of it and will allow the air to circulate better than a baking sheet.

So, overall, the top recommendation is a pizza oven, but failing that, you’ll get great results on a pizza stone.

What mushrooms are used on pizza?

Mushrooms are one of our favorite pizza toppings.

And there are many types of mushrooms that can be used on pizza.

The most popular type is the cremini mushroom, they have a slightly earthy flavor and a firm texture.

White button mushrooms are also popular because they have a mild flavor and a delicate texture.

Portobello mushrooms are also commonly used on pizza, they have a deep, rich flavor and a chewy texture.

For our mushroom pizza recipe, we used a mix of different mushrooms, cremini, woodland, and portobello mushrooms.

Use store-bought or homemade pizza dough

Is homemade dough the best?

Yes, of course, it is, there’s nothing quite like the fresh flavor that homemade pizza dough gives.

But you don’t always have the time or inclination to make your own pizza dough.

So, what are the options?

You can actually buy good store bought pizza dough in grocery stores nowadays.

We recommend buying a quality brand that you like, as the crust is a crucial part of your pizza.

You can also buy ready made pizza crusts that are great for creating your own pizza masterpieces!

Again, our advice is to buy quality.

How do I store leftover mushroom pizza?

Leftover pizza?

Our mushroom pizza recipe will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 – 3 days.

You can also freeze your pizza for up to 3 months.
